Boss Gal Beauty Bar: HydraFacial Review

There are so many different types of facials these days that it’s hard to know which one to try.  I’ve been receiving facials about once a month with a typical face mask, hot towel, moisturizer lineup, and occasionally adding a dermaplane, but this month I decided to try something different. This was my first experience with a “HydraFacial”; here’s my experience:

A little background on my person skincare journey

I had great skin with little to no care at all until about 3 years ago when my hormones decided they were done playing nice.  Within the last year, my skin has begun to settle down but it’s still prone to 2-4 visible pimples along with discoloration from scarring.  It also goes through cycles of oiliness to visible (and seemingly unfixable) dryness every few months.  Nothing seemed to help except for time.

What is a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is a high-tech process that marries deep exfoliation with the infusion of moisturizing serums while eliminating negative side effects that come with different exfoliation techniques. To learn more about HydraFacials click here and you will be directed to the HydraFacial website!

The Process:

First, Kayla cleansed my skin in preparation.  This is one of my favorite steps of all facials, it’s like a mini face massage. Next, she wiped my face with a hot towel – so relaxing! Then came the “heavy machinery” that you can visualize if you’ve ever seen a picture or watched a video of a HydraFacial. If you haven’t seen a HydraFacial before (and you’re not sure what to expect in terms of sensation & appearance) just picture a tiny octopus living inside a handheld machine that gently suctions your face. Kayla began this part by using the HydraFacial applicator to both further cleanse & exfoliate my skin. What’s cool about this facial in particular is that the exfoliation is water-based, which basically means that it is healthier for your skin because it is gentle but still effective.
Next up was glycolic & salicylic acid infusion. She used the machine to infuse my pores thus loosening the impurities which she then was able to easily remove in the next step of the facial.  The final step, using the hydrafacial applicator, was serum fusion.  Using the machine, my skin was infused with a mix of peptides, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid.To wrap up my facial, I got the most luxurious jelly mask ever!

My Thoughts:

I wasn’t sure what this facial would feel like. I admit I didn’t really put too much thought into it until the machine was buzzing centimeters above my face, but it doesn’t hurt at all.  There’s no more discomfort than when you’re using an exfoliating face wash at home on your own. Throughout the facial my skin was a little more red/blotchy than usual but that’s to be expected any time you’re getting a facial. By the end my skin tone was much more even than it was when I sat down.  It felt tighter and VERY soft. The day I got the facial, I had a handful of visible blemishes that had been plaguing me for probably a week. I woke up the day after and they were all gone or significantly less visible than before the facial. My skin still looks much more even, brighter, and way healthier.  I 100% recommend the HydraFacial for anyone who wants to take their skincare to the next level, who wants visible and fast results, or who wants a change from their usual facial.
